What is the BIND 4.0 Open Innovation & Acceleration Program?

Since the program began in 2016, more than 130 startups have been accelerated and more than 200 projects developed with BIND 4.0, exceeding 6.5 million euros in turnover. With six editions of proven success, BIND 4.0 helps implement mutually beneficial startup-corporate collaborations.

You get to reach more than 65 industry leaders – who act as Venture Clients – by offering contracts to startups for real Industry 4.0 projects. The BIND 4.0 Open Innovation and Acceleration Program has three main objectives:

  • Jan-June 2023: High Impact Acceleration and Industry 4.0 Project Implementation – 24 weeks of active acceleration where startups implement their technologies with one or more of our corporate clients.
  • All Year Round: Innovation Showcase & Activities in Basque Industrial Ecosystem – Steady immersion through networking, visits to companies, and industry events.

Each BIND 4.0 program ends with the Open Innovation Demo Day, presenting the results of the Industry 4.0 projects realized during the acceleration cycle.

Basque-based startup Ikustec develops machine vision solutions for the advanced manufacturing industry offering high-accuracy metrology. In their BIND 4.0 pilot project, Ikustec developed a vision machine that they adapted for the factory process at Tubacex. The startup-corporate project extended beyond the 24-week BIND 4.0 acceleration cycle and Ikustec continued to work with Tubacex as a client for nearly two years.

Acoustic Extra Freezing (AEF) from Finland, worked on their startup-corporate collaboration with local food industry leaders Angulas Aguinaga in 2021. AEF worked on the development of a pilot project to demonstrate new freezing technology to help keep frozen food tasting fresh. Their project has continued beyond the BIND 4.0 Acceleration cycle with different time trials and food varieties.

In fact, 6 out of 10 Startup Alumni sign a second contract with their Corporate Venture Client, a statistic proving BIND 4.0 helps boost market immersion and provide ongoing business opportunities.
