How To Get Noticed On StartUs? 7 Not-To-Miss Amazing Tips

by: Antonia Sterian

Published on: May 5, 2016

7 tips which will help you stand out from the crowd with your StartUs profile. Don't go missing out on professional opportunities, simply because you are not offering enough details relevant for your experience.

Millions of people have a LinkedIn account. Whether they are looking for a job or for a business partnership, it’s impossible not to admit the fact that this is a very helpful platform. However, it does have a significant downside: the search option might not be as defined for certain industries as one would wish, so if you are looking for a particular startup, for instance, chances are, you might not find it.

The good news is that, regardless of your location or of your interest in working for a startup or founding one, you have an extra advantage at your hand: your StartUs account.

If you love being around the startup community, then setting a StartUs account is not desirable, but mandatory. It all depends on your urge to succeed in this world!

StartUs is the place where you meet people with same interests as yours, who will be able to offer you the help you need. Did you come up with a brilliant business idea? Find incubators, mentors, investors or business partnerships that will help you nourish it, so that it will grow and thrive just like you envisioned it!

There is a long way until that point and we should probably get started with the basics, right? So, in order to get there, what you need first, is a flawless business image. What are we talking about? Your StartUs profile, of course!

Here is everything you need to know to make it look impeccable, catchy and, why not, irresistible to everyone you encounter! The trick to achieving this goal is to know the key points a recruiter focuses on, when scanning a business profile. Pay close attention to:

#1 Fill In All The Fields

This should be your starting point. The more fields you fill in, the greater your chances of attracting recruiters or the business partnerships you are searching for. Someone who is interested in collaborating with you will want to know what you are doing, how you are doing it or where you are working. These are important steps, so don’t miss them!

#2 Tell People Who You Are

No one has time for games, so don’t let them guess who you are! Use the headline to make a short, but powerful self-description. Make sure you enter a keyword, which is relevant for your area of activity, too! This is the exact place where first impressions are made too, so make every word count!

#3 Work The Video Section In Your Favor

This particular feature is what sets the StartUs profile apart from any other business platforms. Use it wisely, as it can work miracles for you! If you have been blessed with a charming personality and if you know how to use body language in your favor, the chances of reaching your goals are 50% higher! If don’t have experience with video content, don’t worry! Now is a good time to start as any!

#4 Clearly Describe Your Work Experience

People look at you area of activity, but when they want to know more about your past experience, the first two things they will check out will be the companies you worked for and the time you spent in each and every one of them. So, don’t leave any room for uncertainty.

#5 Give Numbers

Recruiters and, usually, anyone who is interested in doing business with you, will want to know concrete facts, like numbers, for instance. You should be able to summarize and then quantify your work, so that anyone looking up your StartUs profile will have a clear view of your professional performance so far.

#6 Rate Yourself

Being able to evaluate yourself is a sign of personal and professional awareness. Be honest and rate the skills you list, or the language(s) you speak. It will make it easier for the people you meet to decide their level of compatibility with you and vice-versa!

#7 Start Networking

Not only that you will increase your chances of stumbling upon a potential mentor, for instance, but your network is also telling many things about you. It’s like the circle of friends you hang out with. Pay attention to the quality of your connections. At a first glance, having many connections shows that you are an open person. However, at a closer observation, the qualifications the people you are connected to, show how selective you are, as well!

StartUs is the platform you should be using if you want to taste and feel the world of startups first hand! Use it wisely!
