German-Indian Tech-Accelerator Startup Creator Supports Entrepreneurs In Implementing Technology Concepts

Published on:

We spoke to CEO & founder Florian Hübner about supporting early-stage startups in developing their product and the role of an accelerator as a CTO.

How would you describe Startup Creator in a few words?

We build, launch & grow tech startups. We support entrepreneurs in developing their initial idea toward the implementation of their tech concept in the form of web and app development. The goal of our Tech Accelerator is to boost the startup success rate from 10% to 90%.

How did you get involved with the idea of a Tech Accelerator?

Five years ago I studied with what is now our Indian core team, and we immediately realized that getting started with a tech idea is one of the biggest issues that friends of ours encountered. Why? Because experienced tech co-founders were scarce and hiring software agencies was not an option as their services were far too costly for them. Hence we decided to support them with our brains, skills, and knowledge in web and app development, as well as the passion for the startup world in general, to provide them with these services at minimal costs while ensuring high-quality.

You specialize in web and app development; what sectors are your startups active in and in what ways do you support them in the process of setting up their business?

Our startups are active in a wide variety of sectors, for example, blockchain, social networks, collaboration tools, tourism, music, and education.

As mentioned before, our core services are related to the tech development of their startup, however, we also support them with business advice, making it our core goal to become their CTO and providing them with solutions and services that are of value to their customers.

Tell us a bit about your program – what can startups expect and what do you ask for in return?

Initially, our startups come to us with a rough idea, and in this stage, we offer them consultation to build the whole architecture and visualize their idea. After that, we help them build it, whether it is a website or a mobile application. Since our core team is based in India, our startups can expect a high-quality service at 80 % lower costs than on the European market.

Once they have convinced us of their potential, we offer a price reduction by becoming a part of their business and they have a chance to grow with us. I’d say that what we offer is sort of a shared business model. All of the startups we have helped so far, have stayed with us as we offer them continuous optimization support.

With the insane growth of accelerators joining the ecosystem in Europe – how do you make sure you stand out?

There is always competition but we have found a way to differentiate ourselves from the market and we believe that we complement the existing ecosystem. We don’t take on unnecessary battles but develop our services further. What’s important to note, is that the majority of accelerators offer solely mentoring or a co-working space which is something you need the least when founding a startup. The first thing you need is the product and our experts support startups with building them from the beginning. Also, we offer our services virtually, so startups can do it from anywhere.

In what ways do you measure your success and how do you make sure you don’t lose track?

We measure growth by the number of startups we launch and boost. In our first year, we boosted 17 startups – our goal is to launch and boost 100 startups by 2020. I can say that most of these startups would not exist without our help because they didn’t see the opportunities we saw. We push founders to actually realize their ideas and build their startup – that is what success is to us: helping individuals to bring their ideas to life! In turn, we draw lots of inspiration and motivation from our startups as well.

You operate offices in Germany, Ireland, and India. In what ways do these countries differ in terms of the entrepreneurial scene and tech development?

They are extremely different. For example, Germans are very conservative, ‘risk-aware‘ and their attention to detail is a formidable thing. Also, while Berlin and Munich get most of the hype, they are many more hubs in Germany.

The startup scene in Ireland is also hopping! There is a huge number of indigenous Irish tech startups operating from FinTech to MedTech. Also, Ireland has one of the most effective technology development and innovation programs compared to other countries of the same size. They are taking many steps designed to encourage foreign investment, create jobs, and develop organic entrepreneurship.

In India, on the other hand, innovation is everywhere. The importance of entrepreneurship and innovation is giving positive outlets to the country’s talent and boosting economic growth. One of the indicators of a thriving ecosystem, like India’s, is its developers who are very entrepreneurial and willing to take risks. Without a doubt, technology companies in India have driven growth, created jobs, increased access to resources, education, and healthcare, resulting in falling poverty levels and improved lifestyles.

As a European accelerator, what do you wish for improving the European startup ecosystem?

We know that Europe has the talent, but it just needs to develop the ambition and the acceptance of risk and failure. Also, we wish to strengthen the environment for tech entrepreneurs, so that their ideas and businesses can start and grow in Europe.

What advice would you give entrepreneurs for their startup?

We encourage everyone to take the initiative, overcome the barriers and turn their ideas into something that really works!
