Prawos.pl: The End Of The Brassbound Lawyer Era In Poland

Published on:

Monika Świędrych CEO of prawos.pl, explains what made her start her business and how people can easily access the services her platform provides.

Describe Prawos.pl in 50 words or less.

Prawos.pl is the beginning of something new on the Polish market. It’s an innovative, fast and reliable platform for those who want to move past their legal obstacles. We offer people a portal where they can find information clearly defined – directly from a lawyer.

Why did you decide to pursue your own dreams rather than someone else’s?

The answer is quite easy. In my life, I always followed the words: “If you do not build your own dream, someone else will hire you to help him build one.” I want to change the image of a juridical group of people and develop the main idea of prawos.pl which is to connect people looking for legal advice with specialized in a particular field lawyers.

Describe your typical working day from coming to the office to leaving it.

Each day is different for us. In that way we try to prepare our employees to be flexible and ready for new responsibilities.
As I see it, we established a team in which we complement each other with ideas. In our group, a particular member can or even has to share their opinion. I assume, that each hint is valid and we as a startup should do our best to improve prawos.pl.

7 years from now: How did your startup change the world?

7 years is quite a long time…but I hope that in 7 years time our platform will develop to a level when for each law office it will be a must have to possess customer profile on our website. And what even more crucial is to ensure aid people for whom legalities are a formidable task and meeting with a lawyer turns the stomach.

In what ways do you measure your success and how do you make sure you don’t lose track?

We measure our success in the number of satisfied clients! Nevertheless, sometimes we also look at the statistics such as the number of visits on our page, the number of new customers or the number of publications. We have 4300 likes on Facebook, about 2500 business contacts on LinkedIn, 1600 followers on Twitter, 43.000 unique users and 200.000 views on the website.

Bootstrapped or financed: What fuels your startup now and what will in the future?

At the very beginning of starting your own business, there is a need of money. While making prawos.pl we had to invest quite a lot of money but at the age of 25 can we even talk about savings? Probably no, and in our case it was the same. That is why I decided to work my way to prawos.pl.

While studying in Germany we were selling graduate caps from Poland and then invested earned money in my startup. Furthermore, as a startup, we have much more potential. People who begin their adventure with running a business can minimize the risk through a business incubator. In a business incubator, the cost of renting an office can be considerably lower and there are no long-term rental agreements what makes it safer for young people without vast experience. Gradually, prawos.pl makes money on itself.

With ferocious competition and a booming trend to build new companies: How do you make sure you don’t get lost in the shuffle?

As I mentioned before, nowadays, people have to be flexible if they want to stay on top. Finding a balance in a hurry is something of a great importance. Every day new projects appear, new businesses, people have ideas they want to implement – but we have to be first with the best quality. The solution is not to rest on the laurels, improve skills and move with the times. It sounds simple and a bit turgidly, however, in my opinion, it is absolutely true for all fields of industries.

What are your most successful projects, that make your team proud?

I cannot mention just one project which made us proud of. In general, being the first to make a portal like prawos.pl in Poland was the most successful for us. But a lot of self-sacrifices and self-denial was necessary.

Now, we want to concentrate also on other things namely appear on the Polish scene as a patronage of many happenings connected with law.

What do you look for in team members?

We look for knowledgeable, inquirers, risk-takers, communicators, thinkers. People who will show us that they have passion and involvement.

What was your most memorable moment so far?

The most memorable moment so far was at the very beginning. It was while I was travelling by train from a startup event in Warsaw. I was with my co-partner and we were arguing about our project. He told me that with our actual attitude we would never start a business. I was so furious about his words that at the same moment I took my phone and called to the programmer. The next day our website was being created.

What advice would you give fellow founders for their startup?

Stay concentrated on your startup – it needs time and engagement to constantly improve your product. Do not be scared to share your ideas because idea means nothing without realization. And build a team you can trust and believe in their strengths.
