With the help of digitalization and automation, Siemens hopes to battle the current and future challenges of manufacturing and machine building. The overall theme of the Future Industry Hack revolves around the pressing question: How can you tackle the biggest challenge in manufacturing and machine building bringing operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) closer together?

Siemens MindSphere is utilizing the current digital advancements and enhancing them to master the challenges of today and tomorrow. With their very own Future World Series, they hope to find cutting-edge solutions that make urban living smarter, more sustainable, and connected through the power of IIoT.

The MindSphere Future World Series unfolds with the MindSphere Future Industry Hack, which will be dedicated to the manufacturing and machine building aspects of smart cities. Startups and innovative companies will have until the 30th of November, 2021 to submit their idea for an IIoT solution.

Who can join?

The Future Industry Hack is open to startups and innovative companies ready to develop new IIoT solutions or repurpose an existing one that combats the pressing challenges of manufacturing and machine building. The desired startups and companies should be well versed in one or more of the following: IIoT, smart city development, artificial intelligence, industrial tech, industrial security, and machine learning. Participants will have to create leading-edge IIoT solutions based on MindSphere to show how to tackle the biggest challenge in manufacturing: bringing OT and IT closer together! Candidates can take on the challenge with the help of these topics and questions:

4. Efficiency
5. End to end digital twin
6. Digital and product experience
7. Data monetization
8. Adaptability
9. Connectivity

With this theme in mind, Siemens has provided six challenges for the hackathon participants to choose from and base their solution on:

• How can industry become more flexible?
• How do we get products to markets as quickly as possible?
• How can we best produce individual products?
• How do we maintain the highest possible quality?
• How can we produce in a more resource-efficient way?
• How can we ensure the highest security?

These solutions must be derived from startups and innovative companies with the capacity to bring their ideas to life. Siemens will be looking for adaptable/scalable/reusable solutions, fit to MindSphere (description and sketched architecture), solving real-life problems, innovation and creativity when choosing the right participants for both the bootcamp and the onsite hack in Dubai. To help understand and undertake the challenge, Siemens will provide mentors!

Hackathon Timeline:

• 30th of November, 2021: End of applications.
• 8th of December, 2021: Shortlisted Startups Announcement.
• 13th-20th of December, 2021: Online Bootcamp. Learn more about the challenge, get access to useful resources, and refine your solution with Siemens experts.
• 22nd of December, 2021: Bootcamp Online Pitch. Pitch your solution to Siemens jury members and get selected for the Hack in Dubai.
• 6th-10th of February, 2022: Hack in Dubai. Develop your solution at Expo 2020 in Dubai, pitch it to the final jury and live a unique experience in Dubai.
