Industry Leader Iberdrola Seeks Innovative Solutions To Detect Public Lighting

Published on:

Iberdrola is looking for proposals that autonomously detect public lighting points and validates them using technologies such as deep learning techniques. Apply by 16 March 2020 to test your solution in a real environment!

In some areas, public lighting maintenance is delegated to “Utilities”, so having accurate information about its location is important. In some cases, even before a new allotment, light bulbs are already installed without being registered in the Iberdrola Database. This situation is especially recurrent in Brazil within the states of Sao Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia, Pernambuco, and Rio Grande do Norte.

Therefore, the leading energy utility Iberdrola is looking for solutions able to detect public lighting, i.e. the light bulbs you commonly see on utility poles.

Seeking Autonomous Proposals To Detect Public Lighting Points

Iberdrola is looking for proposals that autonomously detect public lighting points and validate them using technologies such as deep learning including but not limited to geotagging, object detection (CNNs), and more.

Participants are expected to propose a detection method using an external database in addition to the georeferencing of Iberdrola’s street lights while working under the following limitations:

  • How often will the images that are used for detection be updated?
  • Is your process capable of running with as little human intervention as possible?

All proposals will be evaluated for efficiency, serviceability, scalability & reproducibility.

Why apply?

Working with Iberdrola offers many benefits including:

  • Pilot Project: The Challenge offers the possibility to test the technology in Iberdrola’s networks.
  • New Clients & Investors: If the pilot succeeds, Iberdrola will add solutions to its current portfolio. Besides, Perseo, the VC arm of Iberdrola, could consider an investment.
  • Scalability: The Challenge offers the possibility to scale your technology into Iberdrola’s service territory and other network assets.

If you have an innovative solution to detect public lighting points, apply now!

Key Dates

  • 3 February 2020: Application opens
  • 16 March 2020: Application closes
