CREATORS EXPEDITION Invites Startups To Innovate Without Distraction At “Auto-Tech Innovation Alm”

Tackling Three Megatrends Of The Automotive Industry

CREATORS EXPEDITION welcomes you to the Auto-Tech Innovation Alm – a remote location made to co-develop ideas and innovate together with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), AVL and startups. The event combines the corporate and startup world intentionally, bringing together year-long industrial experience and modern technologies with a fresh perspective on the market. Jonas Schneider, responsible for the program and startup development, explains: “As on an expedition we’re joining forces with strong partners and each part brings in its respective strength and competence. Even though the way is not always straight and easy, we’re working closely with the startups in order to reach our common goal“.

Blending the best of both worlds together creates an ideal breeding ground to tackle the three megatrends the automotive industry currently faces. “With our program, we focus on the megatrends electrification, autonomous driving, and data-driven business models”, says Sebastian Jagsch, Global Head of the AVL Startup Initiative.

How can we achieve a fuel-efficient, sustainable motion way that is comfortable for all? How can we implement fully autonomous vehicles and what are the steps to get there? How can data analysis and automation optimize existing processes and generate new business models? The CREATORS EXPEDITION aims to find the answers to these questions during the Auto-Tech Innovation Alm early 2018, putting the focus on the co-innovation together with startups in order to form the transformation of the automotive industry that is in full swing. Within two days, ideas are generated, concepts are build and valid business models are established. In addition, networking plays a major role in the process as all these components together lay a comprehensive groundwork to start off the expedition projects.

All startups that apply for the CREATORS EXPEDITION until November 30 have the opportunity to be a part of the Auto-Tech Innovation Alm.

Acting As An Independent Gateway For Startups Into The Automotive Industry

Expedition projects like this are at the core of the CREATORS EXPEDITION, AVL’s first auto-tech startup program. Austrian engineering service provider AVL List is the world’s largest independent company for development, simulation, and testing technology of powertrains for passenger cars, trucks, and large engines and has started its independently operating, strategic startup unit earlier this year. To pave the way for the collaboration and co-innovation with startups, both sides will combine forces and competencies to achieve their goal during a six-months-long expedition program. AVL already successfully collaborated with startups such as Rimac Automobili.

More Than An Ordinary Accelerator

During these six months, startups profit from an independent gateway into the automotive industry while also benefiting from a strong market leader. In the course of the CREATORS EXPEDITION, startups will also get access to technological infrastructure, such as access to testbeds, tech centers, and development software. The advantages such a strong and experienced partner offers are tempting: AVL is active in more than 20 countries, leads Austria’s patent ranking for the past 10 years, and provides an extensive partner and mentor network to gain from. However, CREATORS EXPEDITION is more than an ordinary accelerator: startups will take part in a tailor-made expedition project. From maturing prototypes and scaling to international industrialization, auto-tech startups are offered individual services tailored to their exact technology and business needs. The CREATORS EXPEDITION is looking for early and growth stage startups that not only deliver a pure invention but also bring a valid use case and, above all, a strong team.
