Apply For The EIT Digital Challenge By June 14 To Scale-Up Your Deep Tech Startup

European Scaleups - fast-growing startups - focusing on digital deep tech solutions are welcome to apply for the EIT Digital Challenge until June 14. The ten most innovative scaleups will receive international growth support and prizes totaling €750,000.

The EIT Digital Challenge is looking for deep tech companies with solutions in Digital Industry, Digital Cities, Digital Wellbeing, Digital Finance, and Digital Infrastructure. Companies that fall into the following criteria still have time to apply until June 14:

  • Fast growing technology company with international ambitions
  • Company is max. 10 years old
  • Company is incorporated in one of the EU’s member states (EU28)
  • Min. €300,000 in revenue (in the full year 2017 or until the application in 2018) or has raised €2,000,000 in funding

Awarding The Ten Best Deep Techs In 5 Categories

Hosted by EIT Digital, a leading European player in digital innovation and education, the fifth edition of the EIT Digital Challenge supports late-stage deep tech startups looking to accelerate their international growth. This year, the comprehensive prize package totals €750,000 including international growth support for the ten best companies.

Digital Industry

Covers the seamless process from production to retail and the related supporting functions such as logistics and consumer engagement. Solutions include Smart Manufacturing, Predictive Maintenance, Industry 4.0, Energy Efficiency, Resource and Asset Management, Retail, Logistics, Customer Experience, Supply Chain Management, and Image Recognition.

Digital Cities

Leverages the digital transformation of cities through disruptive information, mobility and safety services. Solutions include Smart City, Smart Mobility, Safety & Security, Urban Development, Autonomous Driving, Citizen Services, Citizen Participation, Environmental Management, Energy Management, and Sustainability.

Digital Wellbeing

Addresses the prevention of and coping with both physical and mental conditions in order to maintain a good quality of life. Solutions include Wellbeing at Work, Self Monitoring, Prevention, Early Detection, Assisted Living, Occupational and Personal Health, Rehab, Mental and Physical Impairment Support, and Coping with Chronic Diseases.

Digital Finance

Focuses on solutions improving interactions between customers and financial service providers by offering new and innovative approaches to customer relations. Solutions include Banking, FinTech, Payments, Insurtech, Wealth/Asset Management, Cyber Security, Big Data, and Mobile Banking.

Digital Infrastructure

Seeks to provide secure, robust, responsive and intelligent networking, computing and security solutions. Solutions include Connectivity, Cyber Security and Privacy, Blockchain, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Digital ID Management, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Authentication, Biometrics, and User Behaviour Analytics.

In total, 25 scaleups will be selected to pitch their product or service in front of an international expert jury of corporates and investors at the final event this October.

A Challenge Designed For International Growth

In each category, the best two companies receive a full year of dedicated support from the EIT Digital Accelerator and, in addition, the winner in each category will receive a cash prize of €50,000. To sum up, EIT Digital’s prize package offers what scaleups need to take their business to an international level:

  • €100,000 Prize Package: The two best companies per category will gain 12 months in the EIT Digital Accelerator worth €50,000 to scale up their business. On top of that, the first prize winner in each category receives a cash prize of €50,000.
  • Market Access & Fundraising Support: The EIT Digital Accelerator supports scaleups in securing international target customers and raising venture capital.
  • Pan-European Innovation Network: Access to EIT Digital’s network of 150+ renowned partners across Europe consisting of corporations, SMEs, startups, universities and research institutes.
  • International Visibility: Communication of success stories through EIT Digital’s powerful on- and offline channels and leading European media outlets.

“In this fifth year of the contest, we’re offering our most comprehensive prize package ever, with a total value of €750,000, and admitting ten companies at once into our acceleration program,” says Dolf Wittkamper, Head of the EIT Digital Accelerator. The Accelerator comprises a team of around 40 experienced business developers and finance experts operating from 13 cities across Europe, along with a hub in Silicon Valley. Since 2012, the EIT Digital Accelerator has successfully supported more than 270 startups to access new markets and raise capital.

The application for the EIT Digital Challenge is open until June 14.
