3 Intriguing Ideas To Improve Your Accelerator

Published on:

You want to improve your accelerator? Find more startups eager to join your program? Here are 3 ideas that might trigger your organizations' evolution:

Lately, entrepreneurs claim the fact that the model which constitutes an accelerator has been broken for a while. Whether you are a part of this community and share the same views or whether you don’t see anything wrong, there is one thing both sides can agree on: there is always room left for improvement.

On this note, here are a few ideas on how an accelerator should evolve, exceed its common existence, thrive and achieve greatness. Sure, it does sound a bit overwhelming, but it’s easier than you might expect. The key is to carefully take into consideration some simple guidance steps and your accelerator could be the new hit in the startup community!

#1 Becoming A Presence In A New Market

There is no doubt that the best way to build an entrepreneurial ecosystem is through the traditional model of the accelerator, precisely its ability to create connections between founders and mentors.

The problem is that places like Silicon Valley, London, Berlin and, basically, any major market are filled with these accelerators. It’s an over-saturation, so the next big move would be pushing them towards new emerging markets.

#2 Focusing On A Single Element

In order to be successful, an accelerator should keep its focus on a single stage of a startup’s life or on a founder’s experience. Some European accelerators focus on newly graduates, while others focus on startups that have already raised money.

All in all, accelerators should specialize on a particular area and avoid acting like an entity which encompasses every single startup stage or founder experience.

#3 Partnering With Corporations

Needless to say that for both parties, this is a win-win situation. Unlike accelerators and small-sized businesses, corporations are usually having a hard time in the innovation field. A partnership between the two would allow these titans to make less-risky experiments with ideas that could disrupt everything and make room for the innovation they are longing for.

On the same note, accelerators would also have their benefits and one single aspect is enough to see how things would evolve. A partnership with a large company would put the spotlight on the accelerator, since it would become a precious source of talent for the big company.

Corporate accelerators. That’s how they would be named. Is it possible that this type of accelerator could become a reality in the upcoming years? Chances are, they could. Through the above-mentioned partnerships and by adding a bit more innovation into the mix, corporate accelerators have a great chance of becoming the next big thing in the business world.

The forecast does look promising, but at the moment, these are only ideas. There is a lot of work to be done and developing new accelerator programs is a much more complex action.

It’s not enough to simply hire people who have previously worked in an accelerator. It is necessary, but it is definitely not enough. The central key piece that seems to be missing is a diverse network of mentors. And they are the ones hard to find.

What is your opinion on how accelerator programs are currently working? Should you have any suggestions in what their improvement is concerned, don’t hesitate to share them with us!
