StartUs Presents: Travel Legendary

Miha Stegel from Tavel Legendary explains why they started their company and how they became the turn-to website for travellers around the globe.

Describe Travel Legendary in 50 words or less.

Travel Legendary is a travelblogging website, that allows users to upload their own stories, helps people seeking specific information to find the right blog for their needs and works as a social network for travellers to exchange their experiences.

Why did you decide to pursue your own dreams rather than someone else’s?

I haven’t really looked at it that way – we saw the opportunity to create something good and took it. I think it’s not about whether it’s your dream or someone else’s, but about whether you love what you do or not. As long as you have passion for your job or whatever is it you are doing, you know you will always give your best to be as good as possible. However, I admit that the idea of creating something on my own has always been around and so far, it feels really great.

7 years from now: How did your startup change the world?

Hopefully, we inspired people to travel more. To travel is the kind of thing that makes you better no matter where or when you go, making memories, learning from people all over the world and we want to make that experience even better. In terms of changing the world, we showed people a new way to plan their journey, based on information they found in other people’s travel blogs.

In what ways do you measure your success and how do you make sure you don’t lose track?

Our goal is to create a brand people will associate with travel, exploration and adventure. We want to build a website people will use to find inspiration, plan their travel or simply share their story with the world. We plan to get there by encouraging travellers to share their amazing stories from around the globe as well as providing quality content ourselves.

Describe your typical working day from coming to the office to leaving it.

Let’s take this week for example – right now we are finishing last details for the launch of the website, fixing bugs, recruiting our last beta testers and running our social media campaign, so as you can imagine, things can get pretty intense sometimes. We don’t exactly have an office space but everybody works from home – we then get together to report about the progress. Typical working day can mean anything from typing a simple press release to 24h brainstorming session about how we should launch our marketing campaign.

With ferocious competition and a booming trend to build new companies: How do you make sure you don’t get lost in the shuffle?

By trying to make a special connection with our community and improving our service based on their feedback. The first step is to create enough quality and unique content, to keep people excited about traveling and encourage them to post something from their adventures as well. We are fully aware that the only way for Travel Legendary to succeed is by having a great relationship with our community, which presented one of our biggest challenges (how to approach travellers) to overcome when developing the whole Travel Legendary idea. We met with many travellers, travel bloggers and even a professor of tourism to build the best possible tool for travellers to use.

What do you look for in team members?

This one is hard to answer because we haven’t given it much thought just yet, but I imagine the person should be creative, hard working and confident that he or she is just the best person for this job. Right now we have too much work to do and too small of a budget to waste our time thinking about team expansion, but I hope we’ll get to that point soon.

Why would a talent join your team?

Travel Legendary would be appealing to someone who wants to help build something from “the ground up”, someone, who wants to leave his mark in this story. We will always applaud creative and “outside of the box” solutions and do everything in our power to make work environment pleasant for everyone.

What was your most memorable moment so far?

Considering we are at the very beginning of our story, I’d say it was the launch of our social media campaign, which meant presenting the whole Travel Legendary idea to the broader audience. It was the first time we got feedback from anyone than few of our friends, family members or some consultants we asked for help, and the comments were very positive. Everybody is now waiting for the official launch and we’re working hard to meet all of the expectations.

What advice would you give fellow founders for their startup?

Pay attention to the details – it’s what will make the difference. Also, the amount of energy, time and money you think you will spend, multiply it by 5. But it’s the journey you won’t regret taking, no matter the outcome – every step of the way you learn something completely new. Make sure you surround yourself with ambitious people who will keep pushing you when you will need it the most. Last “survival tip”: you will need lots of coffee. Or Red Bull. Or both.
