Latvian Startup Scene Players Unite To Create Latvian Startup Association

Published on:

Mid Febuary the Latvian Startup Association was launched to bring the local startup community closer together. Here's who joined in for this cause.

On Feb. 15th 28 respected members of the Latvian startup community have united and officially formed Latvian Startup Association (website to launch soon), an organization established to promote its startup scene, connect it to the rest of the world, represent its interests, foster mutual respect and promote understanding of startups in Latvia.

It is important to note that this is the first time in Latvian history when representatives of IT startups, science-based startups, co-working spaces, accelerators and other community hubs, investors and experienced individual and corporate supporters have sat at one table and united in one organization with common goals.

Chairperson of the Board of Latvian Startup Association, Jekaterina Zaiceva:

“Latvian startups have raised over €100 million to date. This is only the disclosed funding. I am convinced that Latvia has all necessary potential prerequisites to become a hub of Northern-Eastern European startup movement. We have already started work on legal definition of the differences between startups and SMEs, which is the first step to policies that would foster the startup economy. We already have a list of priority tasks, and are ready to shape Latvia as a country open to innovations and attractive for foreign investors.”

Who Are The Members?

Members are diverse and include: co-founder of one of Latvian flagship startups Infogr.am Uldis Leiterts, international success story of the world’s first action sports auto-follow drone Airdog, Latvia’s oldest and biggest co-working space TechHub Riga, Latvian private equity and venture capital association, Latvia’s recent successful science-based exited startup Naco Technologies, former Minister of Economy of Latvia Daniels Pavluts, Board Member of Rietumu Bank Renats Lokoments, European Investment Fund regional manager Krisjanis Zarins and many other startups, organizations and individuals.
