TaskWunder: “We’ll Train Tomorrow’s Generation Of Marketers!”

Published on:

Online marketing outsourcing startup TaskWunder is here to help SMEs get more sales done. CEO Jakob Hager explains how he came up with this idea and what it takes to implement it:

Describe TaskWunder in 50 words or less.

TaskWunder is a smart online marketing outsourcing platform. It analyzes your website and gives your recommendations how to get more clients and sell more through the internet while also offering to work with specialists who can help you get the recommendations implemented.

Why did you decide to pursue your own dreams rather than someone else’s?

It’s not really about my dream or someone else’s dream. I really want to build this product, because I see that so many small and medium sized businesses and startups are not good at marketing. My own background is in running Facebook marketing campaigns and I’m trying to put the knowledge I gained into our platform to streamline it and make it accessible to many clients.

Describe your typical working day from coming to the office to leaving it.

I start around 9:30 or 10:00, write my to-do list for the day and then work on it while making “communication breaks”, i.e. setting some time every our or two hours to answer emails and give feedback on Slack or Skype with clients. In the evening I work on tasks that take a bigger block of time, such as designing workflows, managing Facebook campaigns and creating documents. I usually leave the office around 2:00 or 3:00.

7 years from now: How did your startup change the world?

Both online marketing and the labor market will have changed tremendously in 7 years. Any startup which does not have an “automatic selling system” in place will not be able to compete. Marketing will be even more data driven than now and probably a lot of it will be done through chats and messaging apps. I see that the trend is going towards increasing the data we gather about clients and making marketing messages more relevant, just like a good conversation that helps a client reach his/her goal.

TaskWunder is educating clients and building marketing automation systems for them as well as training specialists who can implement those systems. I believe that we already provide one of the most valuable “on the job” marketing trainings for freelancers. We will increase our scale and thus train tomorrow’s generation of marketers, content writers, developers, and assistants as well as get result-focused systems in place to help small and medium sized businesses sell more.

In what ways do you measure your success and how do you make sure you don’t lose track?

Technically speaking, we have OKRs and a KPI tree in place. Our goals are to go where the problems are and solve them. Sounds idealistic, but TaskWunder is all about solving the little issues like setting up wordpress correctly, avoding painful and costly Facebook marketing mistakes, connecting email marketing systems to your website, etc. This is where we found that clients either don’t have the time or the expertise to do that. We solve that for them and take away the painful mind-numbing detail work, so that our customers can focus on the important stuff.

Already pivoted? Did customers use the marketing outsourcing services like you imagined it in the beginning?

We started as a virtual assistance company and moved where demand was: online marketing outsouring. Everyone needs to market and we solve this problem very well for small and medium sized businesses.

Bootstrapped or financed: What fuels your startup now and what will in the future?

We started with a small investment, but did not actually spend it. Now we’re entirely financed by cashflow.

What were the biggest challenges you faced building your startup?

There are a lot of great opportunities. One challenge is to say no to some of those and focus.

With ferocious competition and a booming trend to build new companies: How do you make sure you don’t get lost in the shuffle?

Our first sale was on the first day of the business. By selling services through a platform and by financing the development from cashflow, we are forced to build something that the market wants.

What is the most important factor for success in a startup?

I believe it’s the team. I would advise any founder to focus on the team, then the clients, then the product.

What do you look for in team members?

Independence, vision and great motivation to build something to change the world.

Why would a talent join your team?

We have a clear vision, a good customer base and rigorous execution plan. Additionally, if you join TaskWunder, you’ll learn everything there is to know about online marketing first hand.

What was your most memorable moment so far?

Launching our new platform a few weeks ago. We’ve put a lot of technology and automation techniques into it and now it’s finally working.

What advice would you give fellow founders for their startup?

Solve problems for key people, even if it’s not directly related to your startup idea. By doing that you cannot go the wrong way – and work hard.
