M33 Labs: Bringing You Closer To Your Work Than Ever Before

The relationship we've probably all built with our desktops are quite tight - just like office space. M33 Labs Designer Alex Berg explains what their innovative solution is all about:

Describe M33 Labs in 50 words or less.

M33 Labs builds tools to unlock the full potential of human imagination that enable users to do more through the innovation and improvement of technology.

M33 Labs: Bringing You Closer To Your Work Than Ever BeforeHow did you discover the need for these services? What problem are you solving?

If you take a moment to look at the common desktop setup it becomes quite clear that we have a multitude of devices that not only take up space, but require an immense amount of cables. All of this makes the user experience subpar, so rather than settling we decided to clean up the desktop, and make some improvements along the way. Some of these improvements include the 24-inch touchscreen being at the front and center, so you are closer to your work than ever before. We also include I/O (such as USB) on the top instead of on the back of the monitor or in some hard to reach place. These subtle changes give SPACE its unique user experience.

In what ways do you measure your success and how do you make sure you don’t lose track?

We don’t see ourselves as individuals, but a team. We measure our success by working effectively together towards big long term goals we want and then breaking them down into smaller detailed segments. We verify that everyone is on the same page constantly and utilize tools like Trello to effectively manage our tasks. Basically, we hold ourselves to a high standard and we are always striving make it happen.

Bootstrapped or financed: What fuels your startup now and what will in the future?

We are currently fueled by ambition and hope, a.k.a. bootstrapped. We hope to have continued sales to make accessories that can utilize the various ports on SPACE such as the drawers in the front. The more that we can simplify the workspace, the better we can make the user experience.

What were the biggest challenges you faced building your startup?

The two biggest challenges we face building the startup now is raising capital and gaining a steady, responsive following on all the social media platforms. We receive positive feedback, but it is when they know about SPACE and what it does. Marketing is so critical for a startup and getting people to buy SPACE is hard when they do not know what it is. These challenges are something that we are working on and will always be striving for perfection on.

With ferocious competition and a booming trend to build new companies: How do you make sure you don’t get lost in the shuffle?

We believe that we will stand out because we take a far more user-centric approach to our product than most companies do across their entire line. Although there have been revisions to attempt to integrate the desktop computer into a workspace, there remains a separation of the devices such as the computer, monitor set of speakers, etc.. In most cases, this has caused the workspace to become messy, cluttered, and disorganized. No one else is really changing the game here in this market this way, just yet.

What do you look for in team members?

At M33 Labs we look for team members that work with our dynamic as a company. Our team is incredibly diverse, and one of the things that really make it work is its high-paced environment with an intense focus on quality. We look of people who are willing to put their time and energy into something they believe in, just like us. You don’t have to be the best, but you better be prepared to become the best.

Why would a talent join your team?

I believe talent would join our team because of how we work with each other and how dedicated we are. When you join our team, you join a family. We are that startup that will gather in the middle of the night to figure out our mission statement until we get it right or Skype in to every meeting so no one is absent. We put our best foot forward and we are always moving forward.

What was your most memorable moment so far?

This is a hard one, we have had quite a few. I would say the most memorable would have to be our launch event on April 1st, 2016. It was the day we introduced ourselves to the world, and told the world that we want to do great things. That was a very special moment, and not a lot of people can get the kind of response we did. We had close to a hundred people there, and our CEO gave an incredible keynote. From that moment it has all been about the dream, the vision.

7 years from now: How did M33 Labs change the world?

Seven years from now, M33 Labs will have developed more surfaces and devices in which people can interact with. We will have reached new heights with our products, to have pushed the expectation on what is technology. We will have a range of products for various price points as we do to this day. Our products will be used within and throughout multiple industries including the classroom. I would love to have multiple storefronts at that point as well.

What advice would you give fellow founders for their startup?

Meet other startups. Sometimes we get caught up in a bubble of our own startup and we don’t come up for air. Meeting people who are also in this high speed lifestyle changes and open your mind to new opportunities that you might not have experienced otherwise. Keeping an open mind is crucial to keep the startup fresh and innovative. Startups can’t just stay in one spot or one position for long, part of being a startup is being flexible. Please feel free to give us advice too!
