SportEGo: “We Have Achieved A Lot With Very Little.”

Published on:

Trevor Keane, CEO of SportEGo, explains his urge to build his own startup and what role his father played in the process of founding.

Describe SportEGo in 50 or less words.

We build gaming products for sport organizations and fans that drive revenue through fan engagement.

Why did you decide to pursue your own dreams rather than someone else’s?

My father had his own business so I guess it is in my blood. I love sport and I love marketing so being able to find a gap where I could marry both was a match made in heaven. I worked for 14 years in finance for a multinational and while I learned some fantastic skills, knowledge that I have applied to my business, I wanted to be my own man.

In 7 years from now: How did your startup change the world?

We have helped clubs use gaming products to monetize their match day.

In what ways do you measure your success and how do you make sure you don’t lose track?

At the moment we measure success in terms of numbers playing the games and clients we work with. We can count West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff, Birmingham FC, Basketball Ireland, Leinster GAA, Bury FC and Chesterfield as clubs and organizations we have dealt with and we are keen to work with more.

Already pivoted? Did customers use the SportEGo like you imagined it in the beginning?

We have not pivoted yet. We have a good product and are happy with the direction we are going in. Our model is three pronged, we want to have a B2C product that will entertain fans and showcase our capabilities, we want to use a version of that product for clubs to interact with their fans and finally we want to build good products for brands and companies associated with sport.

Bootstrapped or financed: What fuels your startup now and what will in the future?

We are a nice mix of bootstrapped and financed. We have achieved a lot with very little and some very creative business development and marketing. We are very lucky to have Howzat Partners of Trivago fame as a seed investor. They have helped us get this far and we are currently looking for the right investor to help take us to the next level.

What do you look for in team members?

Enthusiasm and energy.

Why would a talent join your team?

Because they love sport.

What was your most memorable moment so far?

Working with a Premier League club within 6 months of launching a product on the market.

What advice would you give fellow founders for their startup?

Keep going, no matter how hard it gets.
