Together with leading polyolefins producer Borealis we are bringing #materialsHACK to life. The hackathon is a playground for innovation dedicated to those who are excited about unique materials and their market disruption potential. Participants are offered a chance to win 24.000€ cash prizes.

Bringing Together Europe’s Brightest

40 selected plastic experts & enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, engineers, industrial designers and visionary thinkers will team up to discover new areas of application for a recently developed product with unique properties.

The first phase of the challenge will take place in Vienna, Austria from July 8th to 10th and gather ten teams who will will be mentored by entrepreneurs with a strong background in the plastic industry. All of the teams will pitch their final ideas in front of a jury of Borealis’ management representatives and get a chance to not only win 24.000€ cash prizes in total but also enter phase two: Materials Incubation.

Incubation will take place in August 2016 in Vienna and offer teams to further develop their idea for three weeks. Within this time the teams will be supported with accommodation, working grant & working-space as well as mentorship to validate and perfect their ideas.

Application Open Until May 31st 2016!

Applications are welcome at any time as long as they are submitted by May 31st through the website. Materials Hack is open to all people interested in plastics, engineering, business development and industrial design. It is also welcome to enter application as a preformed team of 3 to 4 people. It is however recommended to sign up individually since the event is encouraging people to virtually meet new people and collaborate with those who may have a different skill set: Business Developers who know the market, can seize it and have a technical way of thinking, Industrial Designers who can give an idea a physical form and further challenge it, Mechanical & Material Engineers with a background in Plastics or Metal and Entrepreneurs with great visionary thinking.
